~ Encourage them to shine… through it All ~ ♥
This image was taken after a Headwrapping Class with some of the Youth in Tivoli Gardens, Jamaica, on May 23, 2012… exactly two years after the “Tivoli Incursion”. If you look closely at the princess on the left, you can see a stream of dried tears from each eye. She was crying a few minutes before I took this pic because another youth was playing a bit too rough with her.
After reasoning with her, I took a few pics of her before this one and showed her how she looked each time. A smile kept on growing pic after pic… until a friend of hers came and hugged her… and this was the moment captured :). Her own natural reflection and Love from a friend brought out such a beauty-full Light from withIn… even after tears.

~ They Feel More Than We’re Aware Of ~
This image… mmm… this image was taken in Tivoli Gardens, Jamaica, on May 23, 2012 (two years after the “Tivoli Incursion”). Evening was approaching, football was being played and several youths were scattered around the field either observing the game or doing things on their own. I was reasoning with a group of little princesses… and then I looked over to my left and observed this prince in the image.
No-one, in my line of sight however, noticed him. Everyone was busy around him… backs turned and just caught up in their own happenings. I remember listening to the princesses talk about how they knew each other etc… but when I looked over and saw him… their voices faded. He was just standing there… arms open (as seen in this image)… eyes partially closed, but gazing on the dirt. WithIn me… I felt like he was connecting with “something” else… oblivious to any physical being around him. He didn’t even notice me… didn’t budge when I slowly turned my camera to him to take this pic… and for at least 30 seconds after I took it… he didn’t move. And for some reason… even after I took it… and he came close by and began to interact with the princesses around me, I didn’t show him the image. I felt like there was something so sacred about what just happened, that it took me a while to process it. And especially because it was the 2 year anniversary of what happened in Tivoli… I had no idea of what his experience was/is… and what he was going through at that very moment. I thought that maybe words couldn’t express it at the time… mmm… so I just honoured the feeling in silence. One day I hope to see him again, and give him a copy of this image. and ask if he remembered this moment and what he was feeling.A reminder ~ ~ ~ Observe the youth and Be sensitive towards them… because you never know what they are internalizing or tapping into and trying to express. Listen to their words AND actions… and Love them… with a Patient… and Healing Love. ♥
